Bike Love News #8 - August 7, 2022

Greetings from Williams, Arizona. I don't have a bike, but I do have some nice views and a trip to the Grand Canyon planned. So not all bad. Thanks for reading issue #8 and checking in on Proton Cycles - my little side project to improve lives one bike at a time.

Houston patients can now receive rental bicycle prescriptions in new program

Further proof that bikes have the power to change lives! A collaboration between Houston Bcycle, the American Heart Association, and Legacy Community Health now makes it possible for folks to receive a prescription for a one year membership to Bcycle. It's intended for folks with prediabetes, diabetes and hypertension - who can benefit from the low impact exercise of bike riding. We need more of this!

Fat Tire and L39ION release limited-edition beer to support equity in cycling

If you've been following this little blog (and thank you for that!) you know my personal Venn diagram includes bikes, beer, music and BBQ. So yeah, I like this a lot. Proceeds from every can of L39ION X Fat Tire Golden Ale sold will benefit the Grow Cycling Foundation in support of their work providing education, access, and opportunities that promote diverse representation and equity in cycling. But you need to act fast cuz quantities are limited and sadly they're not shipping to every state (no Michigan?!). Head over to the New Belgium site to get yours.

How the London Bike Kitchen got its start

I leaned about LBK watching a video on GCN and thought it was a pretty cool concept. Now I know how that concept got started. Founder Jenni Gwiazdowski shares how she went from marketing professional to bike repair aficionado sharing her knowledge and wisdom with others seeking to learn how to work on their own bikes. Pretty cool gig and pretty awesome thing she's created.

Bike Love News #3 - Father's Day Edition

Happy Monday! I was a little distracted having fun on Father's Day, so we're a day late. But welcome to issue #3 of Bike Love News. Three in a row - I'm actually a little surprised! A Father's Day e-bike retrospective via Aspen Daily News For some reason e-bikes seem a bit controversial. That the idea of using an assisted bike is not really "biking." I dunno, I figure anything that gets more people out on a bike is a good thing. Lorenzo Semple shares his perspective on e-bikes, and biking in general, with fondness and a touch of nostalgia. A four-mile, car-free bike path that winds its way through parks, beaches and under bridges via DigBoston I was not expecting this headline to be coming from Boston! But apparently East Boston (Eastie to those in the know) has developed into quite a cycling community. And Boston Bike Rental offers a range of fun biking options. Tandems, e-bikes, even Surrey cycles. Very cool. Data gathering app could make roads safer for cy...
