Hello and welcome to issue #2 of Bike Love News! We made it. Well, that's good news for Proton Cycles - my little side gig trying to improve lives, one bike at a time.
Ride a Bright Green Bike with Community bike share program in Nebraska
The community of Alliance Nebraska, located in the panhandle, has introduced a new bike share program. Gently used bikes have been tuned-up, painted bright green, and each have a reflective sticker indicating it’s part of the Alliance Community Bike program. They are available at participating locations around the community.
USPS is testing mail delivery bikes - and that's so cool!

The Post Office is indeed testing e-bikes in Florida with 500 Wh units made by Montana-based Coaster Cycles. Sounds like the plan might be to try and replace some of the postal trucks - the NEW ones get 14.7 miles per gallon, which is an increase over the outgoing 8.4-MPG Grumman LLV trucks that we’ve seen for many years. Yikes! These cool e-bikes can carry 400 pounds and include hydraulic brakes and a rear camera. If this catches on, I might be pursuing a new career as a mail carrier!
Bikes? Beer? Bands? New festival in Washington brings all the best things together!
The all new Northwest Tune-Up is a three-day bike, beer, and music festival with something for everyone to enjoy. OK, this looks really incredible. Bike trails ready for you to ride and enjoy all day. Then a festival style concert in the evening with some of the areas best local beers for your enjoyment? Man, I am seriously going to consider going to this. If you, like me, are interested, you better hurry - the festival is scheduled for July 8-10.
James Penadela, a gentleman from Texas, had his bike stolen, which he used to commute to work each day. Pretty lousy. But get how great this guy is. He posted to Facebook "To the person who stole my bike from my house on Old Robinson Road, you can bring it back no questions asked plus a 40 dollar reward, just need it back. My only way to work," Wow, what a generous spirit. Thankfully, some friendly neighbors were equally generous, buying Mr. Penadela a new bike and like. Well done people!
Students invent "Bike Blender" to bring health and nutrition to the community
A group of Norwich Tech students came up with a modified exercise bike complete with a working blender and new paint job (natch). The bike, which will hit the road this summer and be used at other Community Health events, shows off all of the healthy options for making smoothies and hummus using plenty of natural, low-carb ingredients like fruit, yogurt and other treats.
