Bike Love News #3 - Father's Day Edition

Happy Monday! I was a little distracted having fun on Father's Day, so we're a day late. But welcome to issue #3 of Bike Love News. Three in a row - I'm actually a little surprised!

A Father's Day e-bike retrospective

For some reason e-bikes seem a bit controversial. That the idea of using an assisted bike is not really "biking." I dunno, I figure anything that gets more people out on a bike is a good thing. Lorenzo Semple shares his perspective on e-bikes, and biking in general, with fondness and a touch of nostalgia.

A four-mile, car-free bike path that winds its way through parks, beaches and under bridges

I was not expecting this headline to be coming from Boston! But apparently East Boston (Eastie to those in the know) has developed into quite a cycling community. And Boston Bike Rental offers a range of fun biking options. Tandems, e-bikes, even Surrey cycles. Very cool.

There are many ways cycling can be made safer for cyclists. Dedicated bike lanes. More aware and generous drivers. And also data - real-time reporting via Bike Maps. Created by UCSB data scientist Trisalyn Nelson, Bike Maps is a community engagement tool that allows bicyclists to map out and identify data on bicycle collisions, hazards and other safety amenities anonymously. Communities can then use that data to identify, and improve, problem areas.
There are so many ways bikes improve our lives. Fun. Fitness. Togetherness. Freedom. The Autism Society of Boulder is helping more people experience the wonders of bikes through their iCanShine Bike clinic. The camp will teach 25 riders with disabilities that include autism, brain injuries and Down syndrome.

Watch and learn how different bike suspensions work in LEGO form

Technically this is about motorcycle suspensions, but many of the same principles apply. Pretty amazing what these LEGO master builders come up with.

The things you can do on a bike! From riding, to jumping, to cycle-ball to gymnastics to bike polo! So many amazing ways to enjoy biking!

If you've ever seen a delivery truck blocking traffic in Manhattan, you can surely appreciate this!
