Bike Love News #6 - July 17, 2022

Hello and happy Sunday. Bike Love News #6 is out - part of my little side project Proton Cycles.

Bikes. They change lives. Here's another wonderful example. Dreams Come True, a wish-granting organization for children battling life-threatening illnesses, surprised  an 11-year-old girl with a new Freedom Concept tricycle. “I never thought it would be possible for her to ride,” said the girl's mom. “I did not think they would have a bike that would be adaptable for her. For me, this is just eye opening for her to have this experience and have this piece to help her grow and get stronger." Amazing.

Chicago Giving Away 5,000 Free Bikes by 2026!

In an effort to get more people riding and commuting by bike, the Chicago Department of Transportation is giving away free bikes with a helmet and a lock. Pretty incredible effort to expand cycling as a means of transportation.

Engineer Creates Railroad Bike With Folding Outriggers

YouTuber Cam Engineering who made a railroad outrigger attachment for his mountain bike that folds up so he can ride to and from the tracks with ease. Check out his video below.

A lovely reflection on all that is cycling from this gent Matt Keenan. He covers his experience riding Bike Across Kansas. Along the way he discovers community, biking Mennonites, colorful characters, and the unique joys of pedaling six days across your home state. "It would be only a modest exaggeration to say those six days pedaling alone on the beautiful highways of Kansas were a transformative experience: riding with the wind at my back, the next town’s grain elevator peaking up above the horizon, and the sureness that I accomplished, and possibly exceeded, my goal."

Bike Love News #3 - Father's Day Edition

Happy Monday! I was a little distracted having fun on Father's Day, so we're a day late. But welcome to issue #3 of Bike Love News. Three in a row - I'm actually a little surprised! A Father's Day e-bike retrospective via Aspen Daily News For some reason e-bikes seem a bit controversial. That the idea of using an assisted bike is not really "biking." I dunno, I figure anything that gets more people out on a bike is a good thing. Lorenzo Semple shares his perspective on e-bikes, and biking in general, with fondness and a touch of nostalgia. A four-mile, car-free bike path that winds its way through parks, beaches and under bridges via DigBoston I was not expecting this headline to be coming from Boston! But apparently East Boston (Eastie to those in the know) has developed into quite a cycling community. And Boston Bike Rental offers a range of fun biking options. Tandems, e-bikes, even Surrey cycles. Very cool. Data gathering app could make roads safer for cy...
