Happy Sunday and welcome to Bike Love News #4. The latest edition from my little side project Proton Cycles, working to improve lives one bike at a time.
Dozens of local kids with disabilities learned how to ride bikes during week-long bike camp

There's something about the freedom of riding a bike that everyone can appreciate it. And it's great to see organizations like this one working to make sure that everyone really does get to experience it. This bike camp in Tampa helped 75 kids with various disabilities enjoy the thrill of bike riding. Awesome!
A gentleman name Phil Hammersley started a program he calls Bike Angel in 2018. He had recently been released from incarceration looking for something positive to do. A friend had about 20 bikes he was planning to scrap, and Phil took them, fixed them up and donated them. So far he's donated close to 700 bikes! Wow way to go Phil!

So, in issue #1 we covered Pittsburgh's underwear ride. But Madison has decided to take things a step further with a naked bike ride. Turns out, this is actually a worldwide event. Who knew? The ride exists to raise awareness of the vulnerability cyclists face from car traffic.
I continue to be fascinated with bikes as delivery vehicles. Plus I love that this gentleman - Andrew Taylor - converted his passion for cycling into a viable and cool business. As he put it "I always wanted to do something that made a positive difference, involved my love of cycling and to have a more active role in my eight-year-old son’s life. Starting Velo-City ticked every box. The time was right, and I wish I’d done it sooner.” Well done Andrew!
Another great example of how bikes just make life better. A community resource center in Canada recently acquired several bikes adapted to allow folks with mobility issues to enjoy the ride.
The Tour de France is just a few days away. And to celebrate a Boston based chef is creating a Tour themed menu. Chef Michael Serpa, partner at Grand Tour , has qualified to ride Stage 12 of the tour — called Briançon to Alpe d’huez, in just a few weeks as a part of the pre tour event L’Étape du Tour. To celebrate, he and his team are offering a prix fixe meal that not only salutes the Tour de France, it uses food as narrator. Boston seems to be a pretty bikey town!
Just watch the video! It actually works!
