Hello and welcome to issue #1 of Bike Love News. A weekly (hopefully) round up of fun, interesting, cool news of all the ways bikes make life better! Part of Proton Cycles - my little side gig trying to improve lives, one bike at a time.
So, let's dive in!
Why People Ride Their Bikes in Their Underwear Once a Month (In Warm Weather) in Pittsburgh
Why not?! This group ride was created to help promote body positivity. Pittsburgh Underwear Bike Ride is rolling into its 10th season this year and continues to gain more traction, with 130 to 170 people showing up for each ride, says Scott Kowalski, the event organizer.
New E-Bike Library Comes to Buffalo

This is pretty cool! An e-bike library! Community members from the neighborhood can qualify to borrow an e-bike for free, or they can access a selection of donated bikes, which have been serviced and repaired. Pretty great way to help people out with the power of a bike. It's made possible by the East Side Bike Club a non-profit organization that promotes inclusivity, safety, and access to a broader and more cohesive bike culture in an underserved community.

To celebrate Pride, Schwinn partnered with artists Lisa Congdon and Rae Senarighi to design some pretty amazing bikes. Check these beauties out!
These one-of-a-kind bikes will be auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting The Venture Out Project.
p.s. on a side note, I loved Rae's bio that he "is your average non-binary cancer survivor inspiring self-compassion, activism and gender resilience."

In New York you can now get paid by city taxpayers to document crimes against safe cycling. Biking around a fabulous city, making sure it's safe for cyclists? Where do I apply?
Broke Spoke is a non-profit bike shop that repairs and upcycles bikes, making bike ownership achievable for more people. They also teach bike repair, and give potential buyers a way to help pay for a portion of their new bikes by working at the shop. Very, very cool!
